This series consists of materials loosely related to the closure of Mount Edgecumbe Boarding School at Sitka, Alaska in 1983. There is correspondence related to the closure as well as general correspondence having to do with physical property needs, personnel management, recreation supplies and other administrative matters. There are meeting minutes from the Mount Edgecumbe School Board and Department of Education hearings regarding the closure plan in 1982-1983. Also included are copies of financial and budget reports from years leading up to the closure and strategic plans for housing and other structural improvements to the school, including the William E. Belt Dormitory renovation and the Charcoal and Alice Island Housing Renovation Project. There are also annual summary reports from the School Superintendent to the Area Director at the Juneau Area Office in Juneau, Alaska regarding educational programming and student enrollment.

Mt. Edgecumbe High School (MEHS) is a public boarding high school in Sitka, Alaska in the United States. Established in 1947 after the military abandoned the area, the school was originally operated by the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) as part of a network of boarding high schools, which included schools in Eklutna and Wrangell.
